Community Coaching

is

your community learning from me how to create a mental health coaching team that will benefit your community.

Are you wanting to create a mental health care ministry within the walls of your church that could assist pastors with the burden of counseling?

Coaching your volunteers through a process of creating a leadership team that has the tools necessary to build a thriving ministry within your community will be another area that I can assist your organization.

From start to finish, I will guide your team as they build a group of people who will minister to the needs of your community.

Do you need a teacher to educate your volunteers on basic mental health care?

I will…

  • Train them on when and how to refer to a mental health care professional.

  • Teach them how to give excellent care.

  • Train them in creating the dynamics of a safe ministry environment for those suffering and those giving?

Hello! I’m Melodi! I would be honored to help!

Growing up in a family with multiple pastors, I know the burden that was carried to help those people who were hurting. Pastors carry that burden, often gladly, but when the issues become more than one person can bear, then sometimes they and their families suffer.

Experts tell us that the majority of people will reach out to a faith-based leader first when they are struggling. This is a great opportunity for churches to serve their communities.

Post pandemic statistics show that mental health difficulties are at an all time high. We need an army of people to be highly informed and give knowledgeable care to those who reach out to the church for help. Let me assist in building that army in your church.

After completing my masters in crisis and trauma response counseling, and now working towards a doctorate in Community Care Counseling with a focus on trauma, I have the resources to help your church serve people who suffer with anxiety, depression, panic attacks and relationship issues. I want to see your church help people in an excellent way.

Of course, this is not a substitute for professional counseling. Rather, this would be an avenue for hurting people to not be lost in the cracks once they have sought help from the church. Your Well-being Coaches would have the ability to recognize when an individual needs professional care, know how to walk with them to get that care, and then be a positive social support as they work through counseling if that is needed. Coaches would be taught basic research based techniques to assist those in crisis.

Did you know that the #1 common factor for positive outcome in counseling is a warm empathetic relationship? Let me teach your coaches how to create that type of relationship. I will help them to understand their own limitations when helping an individual, but empower them to reach out to those hurting with real help that has been proven through research. They will learn spiritual helps that can assist the hurting, but also how to help the individual with their thoughts, emotions, and how to create healthy relationships.

Did you know that there is research that shows spiritual disciplines and faith-based principles can bring about positive change for those suffering? But we won’t stop there. They will know how to get a suicidal individual the help that they need, the basics of how to help someone who is having a panic attack, simple life-style changes that can reverse depressive symptoms and anxiety. They will be taught how to respond to someone when they are grieving, know how to comfort someone who is experiencing a crisis, and know how to create a basic safety plan for someone who is in an abusive relationship.

Are you aware that social support is vital for many mental health issues to be solved? The church is uniquely equipped to be social support for parishioners. I will show your team how to excellently walk with someone who is hurting. If you have been in ministry long, you know the complexity of working with childhood abuse survivors. Your coaches will learn how to walk with the individual to get professional counseling and then how to offer social support that they desperately need.

Excellent self-care will also be part of the group of skills that I teach and coach your volunteers in. We want to be sure that they have the skills necessary to keep themselves well, since as people helpers we know that helping others requires strength and stamina. Jesus in Mark 6 taught his disciples about self-care. He encouraged them to come with him to a deserted place. Jesus knew that they needed rest as they ministered to the masses.
